Published material has long been a source of blockbuster plots in the film industry. With a tried-and-true fan base, movies adapted from books are a sure thing. This is illustrated by adapted movies like the Harry Potter books, the Lord of the Rings books, Chronicles of Narnia, The Princess Diaries, and so many more! This is probably why movie adaptation is as huge today as it was when it first came out in the nineteenth century.

Contrary to what was expected, the publishing industry did not die during the pandemic. Instead, the number of book readers even increased and flourished in the different digital mediums available. In fact, there was a 12.6% increase in e-book sales in 2020. Audible, the most popular audiobook website, had a growth rate of over 24.5%, presumably due to the pandemic.

The numbers are only projected to rise or stay steady in 2022. This is especially true for digital book platforms as readers are becoming more and more familiar with staying home and browsing online content. Similarly, this has paved the way for online streaming subscriptions to gain more traction, making the entertainment industry come full circle in its abundance of content. The Metro Films is no stranger to this trend as Director Mark Alvarez and the executive producers of the company continue to partner with the publishing and book industry to find potential content for movie and TV magic.
